The Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Mississippi offers great artistic and academic opportunities. Our students receive individualized attention from a faculty with extensive professional experience and we create performance, design and stage management opportunities for all of our students, including freshmen. We offer a wide selection of courses in areas including musical theatre; acting; costume, lighting, scenic, and sound design; cinema production and cinema acting; dance; history; and business.
The department offers four undergraduate degrees: A BFA with Emphasis in Acting, Musical Theatre, and Design / Theatre Production, and a BA in Theatre Arts. We offer a minor in Theatre arts and training in dance, cinema production, and cinema acting, and we support the college's interdisciplinary cinema minor.
We have 13 full-time faculty members, allowing for a 1:11 faculty-to-student ratio that creates a supportive and artistic and academic environment. The department typically enrolls 140-150 majors.
Ole Miss Theatre produces a full season of main-stage shows every season. All students are welcome to audition and BAs and freshmen are frequently cast. Students are encouraged to participate in Ghostlight Repertory Theatre and Ole Miss Student Dance, which are student-produced, student-directed & choreographed, and student-performed.
