Current Official Selection of the 2012 Orlando Film Festival

Nathan Burke

Congratulations to UM filmmakers Jordan Berger and Houston Settle on the official selection of their short film Current by the 2012 Orlando Film Festival. Last year, the screenplay and production plan for Current won in the narrative category of the UM Cinema Competition and received a $750 prize to help with production costs as well as the support of student costume designer Lydia Reed and the Department of Theatre Arts Costume Studio. The highly successful finished work was shown at our annual screening of standout student films, AN EVENING OF CINEMA, and was recognized by the Department of Theatre Arts faculty with awards for Outstanding Cinematography (Britt Allen), Outstanding Cinema Performance (Gavin Fields), and Special Achievement in Cinema for Original Music (Daniel Russell).  Jordan Berger and Houston Settle were also awarded Outstanding Body of Work in Cinema for their collaboration on the short films The Ninth Floor and Current.

Other UM students and alumni involved in the production of Current include actor Anna Donnell, costume assistant Anjelica May, makeup artist Lavada Johnston, boom operator/creative assistant Patrick McCrary, and creative assistant Kyle Wood.

Current
will screen at the Orlando Film Festival October 18th and 20th in Short Program #5 “Apocalyptic”. Jordan and Houston plan to attend the festival and hope to meet film director Milos Forman (Amadeus, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) who will be honored there as part of the nation-wide retrospective, A Tribute to Milos Forman.
